Fairfax, VA—Truland Transportation Project Executive Chuck Hinton and Superintendent Donny Schwier have recently completed the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP) and Certification.  The EVITP is a not-for-profit, collaborative training program that addresses the technical requirements, safety imperatives, and performance integrity of industry partners and stakeholders.

The four-day course provides instruction in installation, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) across Residential, Commercial, and Public Markets.  Topics covered in the course included electrical vehicle battery types and charging requirements, utility interconnection policies and requirements, fundamentals of Level 1 and Level 2 charging stations, IP networking of charging stations, and applicable codes and standards.  Certification requires EVITP participants to be a state licensed or certified commercial/industrial electrician, master electrician, or electrical administrator and to pass an exam at the end of the course.

Says Hinton, “The EVITP program provides consumers with an assurance that the contractor they choose has been trained according to the standards of the EVSE industry and has demonstrated that they understand and can apply what they have learned.”

Reston, VA—The Truland Group is proud to announce the receipt of the Associated General Contractors of America 2011 Corporate Safety Award.

Applicants were judged on how their company promoted excellence in corporate safety, including safety record, safety program and commitment to safety.  In January 2011, Truland rolled out a new approach to safety aimed at promoting specific behaviors integral to reducing job site injuries and incidents.  Three of these actions are expected of all associates: working safely, speaking up when others work unsafely, and asking questions if directions are unclear.  Three more - providing resources to support zero injury culture, fostering safe work behaviors and safe job sites, and planning and sequencing tasks to minimize risks - are expected of Executives, Foremen, and Project Managers, respectively.

“Truland is truly honored to be recognized for its performance in the safety field.  We have worked hard to integrate safety into the very fabric of our culture and strive for a zero accident workplace.  This award is a testament to our field operations commitment to safety and the ongoing personal commitment by all our field electricians to internalize safety as a personal value,” said Chase Linkous, Director of Safety and Risk Management.

The award will be presented at a ceremony on October 10, 2011 at the Arena Stage in Washington, DC.

Bridgewater Project Wins ENR Award
Alexandria, VA—Truland Service Corporation is pr...

Alexandria, VA—Truland Service Corporation is proud to announce the receipt of ENR Southeast’s “Best Office Project” award for the Bridgewater Corporate Center Office Fit-Out.  The IPD Agreement partners included Balfour Beatty Construction as the Owner and General Contractor, Fox Architects, and the Engineered Systems Alliance (ESA) as the MEP Design Builder.  Working as a subcontractor to the ESA, this 25,000 SF fit-out was the first project that Truland Service performed utilizing Integrated Project Delivery.  IPD is a collaborative alliance of partner companies bound by a common written contractual agreement to a process that harnesses the talents and insights of all participants to optimize project results, increase value to the owner, reduce waste, and maximize efficiency through all phases of design, fabrication, and construction.

“With IPD, Truland Service was able to bring our experience as contractors to the design table and avoid many of the complications that typically cost the owner through the construction phase.  Additionally, although schedule crunches and design issues weren’t completely eliminated, we were all able to complete this project very positively as a team”, said Samer Kiblawi, Project Manager for Truland Service and the ESA.

This project is eligible for LEED certification.  The 25,000 square foot office fit-out in an existing building focused primarily on energy efficiency.  The office features open spaces, with closed spaces limited to conference rooms and meeting spaces.  Lutron Ecosystem lighting control was installed throughout the office.  This system features daylight sensing, occupancy and vacancy sensing, addressable dimming ballasts and controls all programmed using an iPod Touch.  All perimeter windows received motorized shades that adjust based on time of day, allowing a balance of natural lighting and energy efficiency.  The IPD team brought the Bridgewater project to completion on time and within the IPD target budget.
